Tips on Protecting Your Hair While Swimming by Cortello!Posted by katie on Jul 17, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments
It is summer time and the heat is really starting to settle in. But don’t let your hair hold you back from enjoying the pool or ocean just as much (if not more) than your kiddos! Here are several helpful tips on how to protect and maintain your hair color and integrity while also enjoying your summer vacation.
1. A good habit to get into is wetting your hair using tap water prior to jumping in. Wet hair actually soaks up fewer chemicals than dry hair. Think of it as a sponge. Once a sponge is full of water it can no longer take in more water. So by filling your cuticle with tap water, you will be protecting your hair from chlorinated or salt water. Ah thank you mother nature!
2. Use products like Kerastase Aqua Seal. Much like the tip before using this product will saturate the cuticle so that no harmful chemicals can be absorbed. However, the added benefits of this particular product gives you UV protection as to ensure no color fading!! This is a beach bag MUST ladies!
3. This tip might sound simple but you’ll see the difference in your brush. Being in the sand and sun allows your hair to be exposed and while wind blown hair is ultra sexy it is ultra annoying and costly to de-tangle. Putting medium to long hair back into a braid is not only stylish but better on your hair causing fewer breakages. Some people find pulling hair into a braid is much kinder on the hair opposed to a bun or ponytail.
