First things first! Something that ought to be as regularly done as brushing you teeth, brushing you hair is key in continuing the longevity and integrity of your hair extensions. Sort through your extensions with your fingers from roots to ends first. Always hold your roots while brushing your ends and always start from your ends and work your way up to the roots.
Secondly, because extensions are not located directly onto the scalp they are not affected like the rest of your naturally growing hair. Even though your extensions are not getting oily along with your natural hair it is still very important to maintain a proper washing schedule in line with your extensions. Shampoo and conditioner used is equally imperative. Here are a few quick tips when washing. Prep is key! Brush hair thoroughly and thoughtfully prior to washing. Rub shampoo slowly into scalp after first wetting the hair. No need to be too vigorous. Finally, rinse thoroughly aswell.
After washing come conditioning, naturally. A deep conditioning product is best used in this situation. Pat the conditioner onto the scalp, DO NOT RUB! The deep conditioner provides the hair with important nurtients, smooths the surface of the hair and ensures maximum elasticity and strength. Finally leave the conditioner on the hair from 5 up to 15min.
It is recommended to let the extensions dry naturally, better said than done, but if you are desiring to dry and style your hair simply dry your extension bonds first so that it reduces tug on bonds.
